Mission
Bridge to Humanity brings people together to end children’s hunger at countries with natural disasters or war.
History
Founded in 2011, Bridge to Humanity is dedicated to improving the lives of children and families living in extreme poverty. Our mission focused on supporting families in Haiti, Colombia, and Nicaragua, helping them break the cycle of poverty and providing hope for a brighter future. Through our programs, we offer education, nutrition, and humanitarian aid to uplift these communities.
In Haiti and Nicaragua, extreme poverty forces many children to beg or sell goods on the streets. Some are homeless, while others leave their families to work and provide financial support. Tragically, these circumstances deny them the chance to receive an education and develop essential reading and writing skills. To address this urgent need, Bridge to Humanity has launched a tutoring program to equip these children with basic knowledge at orphanages, preparing them for school and a brighter future.
Many families face the harsh reality of being unable to provide enough food for their children, leaving hope in short supply. To combat this Bridge to Humanity is committed to offering physical and spiritual nourishment t o those in need. Through our program we provide financial support to sites in Haiti and Nicaragua, ensuring warm meals for hungry orphans. Since 2011, we have consistently supported several orphanages in these regions, working to make a difference in their lives.
Amid political instability in Haiti, Bridge to Humanity shifted its partnership to Colombia, where we joined local efforts to support children of indigenous tribes near the Amazon River. In 2016, we contributed to these efforts by visiting the region and providing assistance. That summer, the team worked to install a clean water system for a local town, improving access to safe drinking water.
Then, we joined the local missionary in Nicaragua in 2017 and 2018. With the generous support of pharmaceutical companies and non-profit organizations in Korea, our group of medical doctors could offer medical support to local townspeople, mainly elderly people and children. While supplying basic medication and vitamins for the village, our group joined the effort to check the health of the local population through the medical camp. We also focused our efforts on renovating a few houses under poor conditions.
During Covid-19 Pandemic for three years of 2020 - 2023, groups of Bridge to Humanity high school students volunteered to help operations of food pantries and soup kitchens and reach out for fund-raising, instead of service trips to abroad.
In 2023, following the pandemic, Bridge to Humanity shifted its focus to addressing international refugee issues, particularly those affecting Ukrainian children. Due to the ongoing challenges posed by the pandemic and local political instability, sending volunteers abroad became more difficult and unsafe. As a result, we prioritized domestic efforts to raise awareness about refugees, with an emphasis on Ukrainian children displaced by the war with Russia. Our initiatives center on fundraising to combat hunger and provide educational opportunities, helping these children survive, recover, and work toward a brighter future.
Mission
Bridge to Humanity students may have little to offer beyond their time and modest financial support, but in return, they receive priceless smiles and memories that will stay with them forever. This experience has also deepened their appreciation for the freedoms and opportunities they enjoy in their own country. We believe that these students, now more aware of their blessings, will continue to give back through volunteer work, never taking anything for granted.
The most important thing we can give to anyone truly is your time. Find a cause that we are compelled to serve, and put the ideas into motion. We will be amazing at how much one person can accomplish, but more so how much one person can be changed! Little by little, you can be the change you want to see in the world. We are so thankful to have had the opportunity.
